Frozen shoulder is also known as adhesive capsulitis. It usually occurs when the shoulder becomes inflamed and the patient’s movement becomes restricted. There are ligaments that attach to the shoulder bones. When this area becomes inflamed, the bones are not able to move freely in the joint. If you suspect that you may have frozen shoulder, medical treatment may be something that you should look into.

The cause of frozen shoulder is not well known. It can occur as a result of an injury or it can come for absolutely no reason at all. Persons who have a history of diabetes or heart disease seem to be much more prone to this condition…

Frozen shoulder usually starts with pain. In turn, the patient does not want to move the arm. When this happens, stiffness usually sets in and the pain becomes worse. The last phase of this is called thawing – this is when the patient’s movement gradually returns and is eventually able to use the arm again.

When diagnosing frozen shoulder, medical history is helpful to the doctors to know what course of treatment to pursue. The doctor will often order x-rays to diagnose the problem.

If it is determined that you have frozen shoulder, medical treatment will include physical therapy, and anti-inflammatory medication, such as ibuprofen. If the pain still persists, the doctor may order an injection of cortisone to be given.

If physical therapy does not handle the problem with frozen shoulder, medical treatment could include surgery. The doctor will perform the surgery arthroscopically to remove the scar tissue and to manipulate the shoulder. This is often an effective treatment, since the patient will be under anesthesia and the shoulder can be manipulated without the patient feeling pain. Once the surgery is complete, it is followed by physical therapy.

Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) is a common, yet little known, shoulder problem. Often referred to as tendonitis or bursitis, frozen shoulder is inflammation in the capsule of the shoulder that results in both stiffness and pain, along with loss of motion.

There are no known causes for frozen shoulder and the condition is never found in any other body joint…

Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) has three different phases to each occurrence.

During the first phase, the shoulder begins to stiffen up and movement of the arm or shoulder gradually becomes more and more painful. This phase is usually called the “freezing phase”.

The last phase is just the opposite. This is the “thawing” phase and the shoulder will slowly become less stiff and painful, and movement is gradually restored to normal conditions.

The middle phase is called the “frozen” phase because, during this period of time, the patient has little to no ability to move the affected arm and shoulder. Any attempts at movement will be very painful.

Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) is one that physicians call self-limiting. This means that it will eventually resolve itself and there are usually no medicinal treatments recommended. Ibuprofen, ice, heat, and stretching exercises are normally the only treatment prescribed and are sufficient for speeding up the progress of the condition.

Occasionally, when the condition persists for long periods of time with no relief, physicians will recommend more extreme treatments like surgery. It should be noted that surgery is used as a last resort only as there is a danger for permanent injury to the shoulder during surgery for frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis).

1.Make sure that you have an accurate diagnosis. One of the worst mistakes you can make is treating yourself for a condition that you think is frozen shoulder, only to find out much later that you really have a neck or back injury that is causing pain in your shoulder.

2.Take some time to learn about your frozen shoulder. Relief cannot be found by listening to advice from those who really know less than you do about the pain in your shoulder. Talk to your doctor and read some reliable printed materials to find out the best methods of treatment for you…

3.When searching for a doctor, make sure they are qualified and have experience treating frozen shoulder. Check the credentials of anyone that you feel is trustworthy before you begin any kind of a treatment program.

4.Try to begin a treatment program early on in your diagnosis. Frozen shoulder relief is very hard to obtain in the frozen or thawing stages of the condition. By this time, range of motion has already been lost and the joint has become sticky. Catching it early and treating it before the condition has gone too far will prove to be a big help in ensure that the symptoms are minimized and the duration is short.

5.Know when to use heat and ice properly. Heat should be used to loosen up stiff joints, primarily before exercise. Ice should be used to reduce the inflammation and swelling that the exercise may produce.

6.Use a rope and pulley as part of your exercise program. A rope attached to a pulley will allow you to move the shoulder in almost any direction necessary and will provide some sort of tension for the exercises.

7.Frequency is the key here. To be effective, 8-10 short exercise sessions each day will be necessary.

Making good use of the tips above, in addition to following your doctors orders, will ensure that you find effective frozen shoulder relief and regain a full range of motion in the shortest time possible.

A frozen shoulder is uncomfortable at best and, in its worst stage, excruciatingly painful. If you are looking for frozen shoulder home exercises you can do, you have come to the right place.

Pain and stiffness from a frozen shoulder can be eased in both the early and late stages with frozen shoulder home exercises. These exercises are designed mainly to restore motion to the affected shoulder. While the exercises may, at times, be painful, they are the most effective and safe of the treatments that are available for this condition…

As an added benefit, if there is arthritis present, in addition to the frozen shoulder condition, these exercises will help to relieve any effects of the arthritis.

There are two phases to frozen shoulder home exercises: stretching exercises and a regular exercise program. The stretching exercises will be the most important in relieving symptoms of frozen shoulder; a regular exercise program will be important in preventing or minimizing a recurrence of the problem.

When doing the stretching exercises, the unaffected arm is often called the therapist arm because it is crucial to stretching the shoulder properly. There are seven different stretching exercises that should be performed. Each one should be held for a count of 100.

When lying down, lift the arm over the head.
When sitting, lift the arm over the head.
Using a pulley, raise the arm over the head.
When lying down, rotate the arm.
When standing up, rotate the arm.
Reaching behind the back with the arm.
Pull the arm across the front of the body.

One important thing to remember is that you must allow the muscles in the shoulder joint to relax if you wish to achieve effective stretching during your frozen shoulder home exercise routine. Repeat this routine three times per day.

The frozen shoulder cause and effect cannot be looked at as one unit. They must be broken down into the two elements of frozen shoulder cause and frozen shoulder effect. Separating them is important as the reasoning behind one is rather vague and the other, quite obvious.

There is no real known frozen shoulder cause. Physicians state that the condition can present itself during recovery from an injury. It may also show up if the shoulder has been immobilized for a long period of time, such as after arm or shoulder surgery…

Studies also show diabetes as a big risk factor in developing frozen shoulder. These findings lead some physicians to the conclusion that there is some link to autoimmune disorders. This would mean that the inflammation is caused by the body attacking the healthy tissues in the shoulder joint.

Other people at risk for frozen shoulder include those with heart conditions, hyperthyroidism, and lung diseases.

The frozen shoulder effect is very simple. The shoulder joint becomes enflamed and “sticky”, leading to stiffness and pain that makes movement of the arm difficult, at best, and at times even impossible.

There are three stages to the frozen shoulder effect. The freezing stage is the beginning stage when the shoulder just starts to feel stiff and painful. The frozen stage is the stage at which the patient feels they cannot move the arm at all. The thawing stage is the stage during which the arm begins to regain movement and range of motion.

The symptoms of frozen shoulder may appear suddenly with no warning at all, or they may come on gradually, with the patient realizing less and less range of motion each day.

Treatments are available for frozen shoulder. These treatments include physical therapy and deep heat massage treatments. However, most doctors prefer to simply prescribe ice and anti-inflammatories because, when left alone, frozen shoulder usually heals itself with time.

What is a frozen shoulder? Frozen shoulder is a medical condition that is also referred to as “adhesive capsulitis.” As the medical term suggests, frozen shoulder involves sticking in the shoulder joint, causing stiffness and pain. It is well known for its ability to suddenly appear, and then disappear just as fast, although it can also develop gradually and recede gradually. Left to its own devices, frozen shoulder will, most often, improve on its own with little medical intervention.

When asked to answer the question, “What is a frozen shoulder?” many people often refer to it as a form of arthritis. This is not true. While the stiffness and joint pain may mimic arthritis, they are two very different conditions…

Inflammation in the shoulder joint causes the tissues in the joint to stick together. There is a bursa sac, or capsule, that surrounds the shoulder joint. When the tissues in the shoulder joint become enflamed, the bursa sac fills up with this sticky fluid. The fluid in the sac will make it very difficult for the patient to lift their arm above their head.

This problem can be compounded if the bursa sac begins to stick to the arm bone. If this happens, proper rotation of the arm will become very difficult. When you combine this with the overall stickiness in the enflamed joint, and the sensation is that of the shoulder being frozen, as the patient is unable to achieve any degree of functional movement.

So, the answer to the question, “What is a frozen shoulder?” is a very simple one. It is exactly what it sounds like it is. The patient finds their in a frozen state.

While the condition is temporary, it may take many weeks, or even months, for it to correct itself. Generally, if the condition came on gradually, it will most likely go away gradually. Likewise, if it appeared suddenly, it may just simply be gone one day.

There are many treatments available to aid in reducing the symptoms of frozen shoulder; however, most of these treatments are only effective in eliminating or reducing the amount of pain that the patient suffers as a result of this condition.

Physical therapy for frozen shoulder is a controversial subject because many feel that it, unnecessarily, causes the patient more discomfort than they really need to endure. Those who feel this way are firm believers that a frozen shoulder will heal itself, given the right amount of time and patience…

For those who do not subscribe to this belief, there are some forms of physical therapy for frozen shoulder that may be beneficial in relieving the stiffness, and the pain caused by it. Most of the time, physical therapy consists of stretching exercises and massages.

The exercises are very limited and usually only done with the help of a licensed physical therapist as there is significant danger of doing real damage to the shoulder joint if the exercises are not performed correctly and carefully. Massages may be both manual, in the form of massage or chiropractic manipulation, and deep heat, usually through ultrasound.

One thing to keep in mind is this: physical therapy for frozen shoulder can be very useful in relieving both stiffness and pain, but…it can usually only be done effectively during the first and last stages of the condition. These stages are called the freezing and thawing stages. During these stages, there is generally still some flexibility remaining in the shoulder joint, which allows the patient some range of motion to work with in therapy.

The second stage is called the frozen stage and any attempt at stretching or extreme movement during this stage can be excruciatingly painful for the patient and is generally not deemed worth the suffering it can cause.

Frozen shoulder known as adhesive capsulitis is a medical condition attributed to a painful shoulder. No medical reasons pinpoint the cause of this condition. The patient is diagnosed with a frozen shoulder if the shoulder is painful and immobile.

Frozen shoulder is treated in various methods that include medication, exercises and surgery. Therapy for Frozen Shoulder include Acupuncture, but different techniques are adapted to Acupuncture Frozen Shoulder…

The points selected to Acupuncture Frozen Shoulder are mostly from small intestine meridian, especially SI-9 through SI-12 which passes through shoulder area. At the shoulder capsule attachment zone the key point SI-12 is selected to Acupuncture Frozen Shoulder. Acupuncture point is the indentation which can be located by raising the arm. This key point eliminates the shoulder pain along with difficulty to raise arms.

An effective treatment shared by a doctor is the focus on one acupressure point GB-34. This is located on the leg, this single point is better than treating multiple pressure points. The same side that of the affected shoulder is selected to Acupuncture Frozen Shoulder. Sometimes when the pain continues to persist, the needle is applied to the pressure point on the other leg.

Another method to Acupuncture Frozen Shoulder is deep insertion and then rotation and thrust. For normal patients reducing technique is adopted, whereas for patients with deficiency both reducing technique and reinforcing technique is employed. To maintain stimulus the needle is maneuvered every 3 to 5 minutes. The patients are advised to move the joints of the shoulders.

The needle retention duration is thirty minutes for each day. Five continuous days treatment forms one course to Acupuncture Frozen Shoulder. Some times when two courses are recommended, after one course of five days break is given for the treatment for a day or two and then the next course is continued. The frequency of treatment is also reduced every other day until the pain is totally relieved.

The techniques also include both strong intensity and intermittent waves of electro stimulation of the needles

Some times there may not be any injury leading to frozen shoulder but still the stiffness and gradually increasing shoulder pain persist. Any injury to the shoulder causes Frozen Shoulder. An inflammation of shoulder muscles lead to scarring tissue as the result of this thickening takes place followed by the shrinkage of the capsule around the shoulder joint that causes Frozen Shoulder.

The tough cords of tissue that connect muscles and bones called tendons. This facilitates the muscles move the bone. Tendonitis is the inflammation of tendons which may causes Frozen Shoulder. Tendonitis is also termed as Tendonitis. The bursa is a very tiny sac filled with fluid to decrease the friction in between tissues. Bursae is the plural of bursa. When the bursa has inflammation it is referred as Bursitis, one of the reasons that cause Frozen Shoulder…

The muscle around shoulder joint that allows wide range of motion to the shoulder is rotator cuff. These help the joint perform wider range of movements than other joints. Injury to rotator cuff is one of the causes of Frozen Shoulder. Some human body does not produce or properly use insulin the hormone needed to convert sugar, starches and other food in to energy. This disorder is termed as diabetes. Patient with the history of Diabetes causes Frozen Shoulder.

A joint is where two bones meet in the human body. Joints function to move the body parts. Arthritis means inflammation of joints. Factors of hereditary, injury leading to osteoarthritis, abnormalities such as gout, pseudo gout, and infection are some of the reasons for inflammatory arthritis. Systemic lupus erythematosus and rheumatoid arthritis are among the arthritis which can find no reason for its occurrences.

Inflammatory arthritis causes Frozen Shoulder to several people. After Chest or breast surgery or immobility of shoulder joint for long time also causes Frozen Shoulder to human beings. One of the treatment for Frozen shoulder is Frozen surgery involving Frozen shoulder manipulation.
