Rotator Cuff Rehab

When you have inflammation in the shoulder area, particularly the rotator cuff, the first thing the doctor will do is make an accurate diagnosis and rule out a tear to the rotator cuff. Once that is done, rotator cuff rehab is going to be vitally important to the restoration of a full range of movement to the affected arm and shoulder.

Rotator cuff rehab is best achieved by using a combination of anti-inflammatory medications and stretching and strengthening exercises…

Anti-inflammatory medications can be prescribed medications or they may be over the counter medications such as ibuprofen. All are effective and the choice of which one to use is up to you and your doctor.

Which ever one you choose, it will be very important for you to realize that it takes some time for the anti-inflammatories to build up in your system. You will need to take a dose of this medication daily for the entire period of your rotator cuff rehab.

Stretching exercises are an important part of rotator cuff rehab because they will be the basis for any further work you do to help your shoulder to heal. Before you can begin to attempt to regain strength in your shoulder, you must first be sure that you can stretch the shoulder to its full capacity and that you have a full range of motion.

Once you have maximized the stretching exercises, you can then progress to the strengthening exercises. Range of motion is useless if the shoulder and arm remain too weak to be of any use to you.

Rotator cuff rehab is best facilitated by the use of anti-inflammatories, proper warm up and stretching exercises, and follow up with strengthening exercises to shorten the amount of time it takes to recover from rotator cuff injury and restore the shoulder to its full potential.
